Hello, my name is Kayla and this is my face.
Kayla Bedey (American, b. 1991) is an imagemaker with an emphasis in historic photographic processes, primarily gum bichromate. Her work explores the romanticized outlook of the Intermountain West and the role our psyche places on personification of place. Kayla has her bachelor of science in civil engineering and her bachelor of arts in photography. She has experience instructing photography at the collegiate level, teaching a variety of subjects including the analog black and white darkroom and advanced lighting. Kayla also has knowledge and training in archival and museum framing practices. Her work has been exhibited globally and is included in various publications including Gum Printing and Other Amazing Contact Printing Processes, Gum Printing: A Step by Step Manual Highlighting Artists and Their Creative Practice, and Handcrafted, the Art and Practice of the Handmade Print (Chinese language only). Kayla is currently making work while pursuing a masters of science in environmental engineering in Bozeman, MT.
